The Army
People in the army are sometimes forced into slavery because commanding officers can command their subordinates to do non-related things, which may also hinder the security force in Russia. These soldiers who are forced to do such things do not get payed like other soldiers. They may not leave easily because they must fulfill at least a year of obligatory service before leaving. A man named Andrey Rudenko was involved in this situation. His commanding officer sold a tractor to a construction manager for 65,000 rubles and also Rudenko as a "bonus". Rudenko was then forced to do labor work in the construction industry, working outside the military. His hut had no light or heating, and he was given barely any food or drinks. He tried to go back to his home in the military camp to get some food, but he was forcibly rejected. During his travel, Rudenko was also by a car and his leg was amputated and he cannot see with one of his eye. He was in coma for 13 years. The truth finally came out when conscious investigators began asking him questions. He was transferred to the Burdenko military hospital until the military decides to stop funding him (2).
Disadvantaged Women
Women coming from disadvantaged people groups usually becomes enslaved in many ways, which includes prostitution. These women are usually extremely poor or they are married to drunk husbands. This makes them desperate for money from easy jobs. Anna R from Smolensk was involved in forced prostitution. She was first dropped out of a school and married a drug addict. The marriage didn't work out well and she was abused and was divorced. Her husband died not long afterwards. However, she already had a child. She then decides to marry another person, but this marriage fails again. Her mother urges her to find a job quickly. She got really desperate because she thought that if she did not get a job, her parental rights will be revoked. She was then offered to become a housemaid in Turkey, she accepts it and flies to Turkey. However, this was a scam and instead she was forced to work in brothels. After a police raid 7 months later, she was sent back to Russia (2).
Homeless People
Homeless people are forced into labor. They get payed little to no money for their effort. The strange thing is that they are grateful even for the most inhumane minutes of sustenance. The police are also blinded by the fact that there are less people on the streets. A man named Igor I was involved in this situation. He was unable to leave and was beaten and humiliated a lot of times. He was forced to work in the fields, from building, to bricklaying. One day, he escaped the construction site and ran to the police to report what happened. The case was passed to different departments until the case was not finished. Finally, the police decided to close the case so that it won't show up in statistical reports and Igor could not re-appeal because he had no ID (2).
Migrants Enslaving Other Migrants
This is a very unique situation and it happens in Russia. A man named Daler Aminov found a job as a laborer in Tadzhikistan (Tajikistan). Soon afterwards, armed men broke into his house and kidnapped him. Aminov's brother, Mansur, called All-Russian Movement for Tadzhik Migrant Workers’s chairman Karomat Shapirov that his brother was kidnapped and the criminals wants 250,000 rubles for Aminov's release. During this time, Aminov was enslaved by his own countrymen and was forced to do works for them. Since they did not have the money to release Aminov, the criminals agreed to release him for half the price. The police watched the handover, but the criminals weren't capture because they weren't looking for trouble (2).
